From scene to ether and back. “L’assoluto naturale” by Goffredo Parise for Radio Tre

Abstract

The essay analyses the creative process of a radio performance: L’assoluto naturale by Goffredo Parise, with Sandro Lombardi and Sabina Guzzanti, directed by Federico Tiezzi. Broadcasted in 1998 by Radio Tre in an ambitious program conceived by Luca Ronconi, the adaptation for the radio anticipated the corresponding theatrical staging by a few months, thus born from a truly unusual creative path. In order to create a radio play that criticizes mass society through a male-female thematic polarization of Strindbergian memory, the director significantly adapted the text and intervened on actor’s acting by combining musical passages, noises or abstract sounds with the performers’ emissions. Such a refined vocal score, born from an in-depth study of the characters, constituted a sort of innovative study for a mise en scène.
