Manlio Marinelli

Manlio Marinelli was born in 1973. He worked as dramatist and Dramaturg with Teatro Libero of Palermo since 2001. He wrote Emilia that won the Fersen prize. He directed his play La Maria Farrar in 2010 for the Festival Il Sacro attraverso l’ordinario. He wrote the pièce Il mare a cavallo too for the festival Torino Spiritualità. He is author of two monographic essays Per un teatro degli spazi (Theatrum Mundi edizioni, 2001) and Aristotele teorico dello spettacolo (Edizioni di Pagina, 2018). He published many articles in important rewievs (Castello di Elsinore, Dioniso-Rivista dell’Istituto Nazionale del Dramma Antico, Maia, Culture Teatrali, Mimesis Journal). The publishing house Editoria e Spettacolo published an anthology of his plays (Teatro 1). He has obtained is Phd in Performance Studies at Turin University.

Abstract

After his previous work dedicated to Night just before the Forests, the author returns to exploring the relations between Koltès biographical elements and theatrical writing and how they intertwine in French dramatist's plays. The author employs the French playwright epistolary and interviews to identify characters biographical sources and places references in the pièce Black Battles with Dogs: through a metaphorical and allegorical process, the idea of metamorphosis becomes dramaturgical driving force and signature style characterizing Koltès wok.
