From “Libation Bearers” to the Delphiads: Gianfranco de Bosio and the University Theatre of Padua

Maria Rita Simone ha conseguito il Dottorato di ricerca in Letteratura e Filologia - Discipline dello Spettacolo, presso l'Università degli Studi di Verona con la tesi: Il Teatro di massa: un'esperienza di spettacolo politico nell'Italia del secondo dopoguerra. Ha pubblicato sulla rivista «Il Castello di Elsinore» il saggio: Stanotte non dorme il cortile, di Gianni Rodari e di Marcello Sartarelli. Una “realtà fantastica” nel teatro italiano degli anni Cinquanta, e sulla rivista on line «Drammaturgia»: Il Teatro di massa del PCI: la regola e l'esperimento. Ha curato la catalogazione dei documenti presso l'archivio personale di Gianfranco de Bosio. Ha partecipato come relatrice ai Convegni: Caro mostro. Duecento anni di Frankenstein; I linguaggi della narrazione. Percorsi tra letteratura, filosofia, teatro e cinema. È attrice e drammaturga presso il Teatro dell'Albero di Milano.

Abstract

The experience of the University Theatre of Padua, directed by Gianfranco de Bosio, began in 1946 and ended in 1953. The shows that mark, respectively, beginning and end are: Aeschylus’ Libation Bearers and A Man is a Man by Bertolt Brecht. The University Theatre of Padua participates with the Agamemnon in the Delphiads (Verona, 1952), an International Festival of University Theatre freely inspired by the theatrical project of Sikelianòs. The show is presented at the First International Festival of University Theatre of Parma two months after the debut of A Man is a Man. The essay examines the highlights of the Padua Theatre and the Delphiads experience, highlighting a continuity in the staging of Aeschylus’ two texts: Libation Bearers and Agamemnon.
