Olivier Caïra est maître de conférences à l’Université Paris Saclay. Enseignant en IUT, il mène des recherches en sociologie au Centre Pierre Naville (Université d’Evry) et en narratologie au CRAL (EHESS Paris). Il est également scénariste et développeur de jeux de société.

Abstract

Exceptional characters have been omnipresent in audiovisual fiction since the 1980s, maintaining an ambivalent relationship with risk. Detectives versus criminals, luminaries versus mad scientists, these characters compete in strategic games that underline the seriousness of the threats. Faced with unprecedented risks, the stories often feature neuroatypical heroes who face the incomprehension of their allies as much as the weapons of their adversaries (like Alan Turing in Imitation Game). Finally, the “Frankenstein creatures” born of Artificial Intelligence or genetics carry risks as soon as they surpass their creator.
